Adventures in the skin trade

Do you feel that the beasties in this wine might perhaps be starting to spiral out of control?

With regard to the 2004, yes that is how I feel.

I made a reference to the Incredible Hulk when talking about this wine awhile back.

Apparently the Orange wine trend has travelled around the world from 45 Tudor Place and made it all the way back to 108 East 16th Street in NYC.

I think to be fair, it is worth saying that IWM has been working with Gravner, Radikon, and Movia for as far back as I can remember having visited there.

You're right, I just don't recall them marketing their wines as orange.

Well, I think they missed a golden marketing opportunity then.

Clearly LDM is taking advantage of a bubble in the orange wine market. But is there a correction in the offing?

Already burst. Despite it's brilliance, Radikon is unsaleable.

We were referring to them as "orange" on the floor by early '06 at least- I found an old email suggesting opening a Radikon "or one of the other orange wines" for a weekend tasting because I didn't have much experience with them. Can't remember if we did. I got turned on to the concept of skin-contact whites by one of Sergio Esposito of IWM's paeans to Gravner in maybe '05. The category was indeed on the CSW shelves due to Jamie and David's vision for the store and would occasionally be bought by someone already in the know, but I don't remember pushing them myself much until a bit later. We brought in the full Radikon line after being tasted on the new vintage by Kevin McK, which would likely have been late '06 / early '07.

it's worth noting that every recent bottle of rusticum i've had has been...uh...interesting. not showing well at all.

I haven't really cared for what Rusticum has come my way.

Maybe next vintage, after they have one done with. I personally preferred the normal Suore '06 to the '05. And I preferred it to the '07 as well.

We'll see what comes.

Speaking of Orange '06, me and the Dettori Bianco '06 have become close pals. You can see us together most evenings.

Yeah, but what about the amphora dinner/late lunch on the 29th?
