Not sure if it's the Cru but I tasted this vineyard from Fevre (and other producers) several times over and I can't help but NOT like it: it does lack backbone. Really very far from my Chablis paradigm.

Rants and Ravings
- the more Pinot based Champagne outside the Motaigne I taste the better they are: Courtin/Collin/Bouchard are all very impressive. You get the sense however they need to work a lot in the vineyard/cellar to make up for the lesser terroir
- Dom P. has been a let down as usual. Last decent bottle I remember was a 1996. Or maybe its just me because given th eprice tag I deem this to be an excellent product year in and yar out and so set my expectations so high
- A single bottle of Riesling washed away 7 bottles of Champagne. The more a drink of this, the deeper in love I feel. I can hardly think a more "vertical" wine.

Sounds like good analysis in theory, but are you going to tempt fate by laying down a case of this for extended aging?

I've never seen this wine suffer premox, and I bought solid cases of the wine in 96 and 97. I'd expect 97 as a vintage to be quite vulnerable to premox, given the vintage's structure. I think I finished my last bottle quite recently, and none of them showed premox. I've had a couple of the 96s within the last year or two, and neither of them were premox'ed.

But maybe I'm just lucky.

Premox: I have read the Thread on That Board but I have never seen Louis Michel popping up as usual suspect. I would be surprised. In the grand scheme of things if you want to avoid premox then you should avoid any burgundy from roughly 1995 onwards to 2005/6 (?). I like to take risks.

Riesling: it's August and can't wait to get to Trier. This year will be attending also the GG tasting on Sunday... I drink a lot of Champagne (btw Marie Courtin rocks) but thanks God I have few times as much Riesling....
