Where do they get these people!

How do you spend years in the wine business, supposedly love Vouvray, and not know how to even come close to correctly pronouncing Moelleux or Francois!

Since the French pronounce American names as if they were French, I see no reason not to Anglicize Louis, especially since he has no reason to know Madame's place of birth. On Moelleux I give a buy to anyone who isn't a native speaker as it demonstrates all that's confusing to American's about French orthography. Pronouncing Franois Francose, though, did tip even me over the edge.

Sure, but we're not just talking about casual consumers or rare words here. I am the last person to laugh at someone for not speaking a foreign language correctly, but Moelleux is a pretty common word in the world of wine (and gastronomy) and this guy has been working (and supposedly loving) French wine for several years. This is not obscure stuff!

That said, sometimes I get tripped up when speaking English and pronouncing French words because I'm not sure how much to keep them in an Anglicized pronounciation for the sake of flow yet still remaining true to the original spirit. So I can get tripped up myself in ways that wouldn't happen when speaking French and pronouncing French words and I don't know how much of that was happening to him. (I'm guessing not much, but...)

I never see this guy, what a gig he has.

I continue to be mesmerized watching the assignment of points. It's so metaphysical, I could watch it all day. Even when it's being done by my best pals.

He tripped over a few shibboleths, for sure.

The guy can sell, but he's no Linus Kessler.

Yeah, it's like some divine revelation. As if the wine is using the tasters body as a conduit to reveal itself . . . in numerical form.

Maybe there is something to this whole Jesus business. I'm going to subscribe to Parker's magazine and try to decipher the word of god!
