I once heard Terry Theise say that there was potential in WVa dues to the soil composition and exposure along some of the rivers. I'm not sure whether he was being serious or BSing. It's hard to tell sometimes and this was a long time ago.

Potomac Highland Winery seem to be some of the only folks growing vinifera in West Virginia. Riesling, chardonnay, pinot noir (yikes), cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot, plus a bunch of hybrids.
