'05 beaujolais

Had some friends over last sunday to taste '05 beaujolais. I'm posting Richard's cellartracker notes (thanks Richard for taking fantastic notes for us).
All drinking quite well and very enjoyable (drinking spot on). Had some '02's as well (one was corked). The Thevenet was superb as was the Coudert.

How about anyone, how are you enjoying the '05 cru beaujolais?

Not bad. I wish I had some 05 Beaujolais.

Lots of names there I haven't heard of. Beaujolais must be a big region!

Looking at the pictures I couldn't help but think that such gatherings are where good Beaujolais was meant to be drunk. A lively group outdoors with picnic food.
I am envious.

Some new guys for me, too.
Good job.

As for 2005's, a recent Poncie was very nice even if a bit young. I have the Vissoux MaV in the "soon to be tried" line-up as well.
A recent Tete, Julienas was exquisite.
Best, Jim

I bought these this year from Garagiste.

I really like the 2006 Cote de Brouilly from Chavannes, it is a very elegant and understated Beaujolais.

The '07 Perrachon Julienas was also very nice, maybe a bit 4 square but very drinkable for the $13+ tariff. The '07 Perrachon Fleurie was a little bit riper than the Julienas, and maybe a little more tannin. I preferred the Julienas over the Fleurie.

Looks like a great event, Sandy.

I enjoyed a lot of Lapierre, Descombes and Foillard from the '05 vintage at the time but have drunk all my '05 except a single bottle of Tete Julienas which I was told to age.

I'm still thinking about the palate from the '02 Coudert we drank together, which in my memory has grown into these beautiful tart rock crystals. Glad to hear that the '05 was more giving palate-wise for your crew than it was for ours.

Had the '05 Descombes Morgon two nights ago. It was very ready to drink and nice. It verged on being a little candied/sweet without food, but was great with dinner.

I had to read this twice to get your point...

I have mixed feelings about the longevity of Descombes, but they're so good, who cares?

I think that you have received good advice.
Levi, clarification please: the "good advice" to which you refer is to age the Tete, not to have drunk all one's 2005 Beaujolais by now?

If you listen to this group, they'll all tell you you are opening them about 20 years too young.

I would age an '05 Tete rather than drink it as this time, if my fairly recent experience is any guide.

Not from em, you won't. Some 2005s will make old bones though.

where does the foillard morgon cote du py find itself on the evolutionary curve?

Haven't had this since release, but I have had Lapierre in the realm of recent and thought it could use a little more time (not 20 yrs). I'd expect Foillard to be a year or three behind Lapierre based on how they showed young.

Which 2005s?

Feel free to pm me for the cliff notes.

Fucked that one up.

DO NOT TOUCH.

Actually, don't even look at it for 5 years.

Good thing there is 2007 so I can work out my Coudert jones.
