'05 beaujolais

Two 05s opened this week:

Pascal Granger Moulin-a-vent: Drinking beautifully right now, almost straight from the bottle. Lean, relatively elegant profile. Fruit flavors strictly secondary, giving a kind of restrained bouncy richness to balance out the taut acidity and ample tannins, with hints of spice and some complexity. A really good bottle, and a vigneron I will pay more attention to.

Vissoux Fluerie Poncié: Still in an funny place: plenty of lively acids, decent mid-weight heft on the palate, a slightly sauvage, almost disjoint edge. Fruit-derived flavors are muted, but there's an odd sense of lurking power. The wine softens and improves a bit with air time, but never really relaxes. Hard to say.

opened a Coudert Tardive a couple weeks ago. needed lots of air. only after 5-6 hours did it really brighten up. lots of minerals, lots of florals. not touching my other bottles for another couple of years.

Brun Ancien naturelle meaty and monolithic, may be somewhere, getting better than metallic closed thing a while back.

Here are my 2005 Beaujolais; I have had several of each this year:
2005 Savoye Cote du Py VV - drinking beautifully; all you can ask and much more from this wine.
2005 Desvignes Morgon Javernieres - it's just not there. Reminds me of 1985 Cabs; you keep waiting for it to come around and it just doesn't happen. Still tannic, not much fruit.
Both wines bought on release from CSW and cellar stored.

Thanks for sharing this with me. The half bottle you sent me home with turned it to something really nice with the veggie pulp burgers we had! The spice and cranberry character of the wine played well with the cumin. Thanks again!
