If at Obelisk...

why not try the 1999 Barolo Garblet Sue from Brovia? We had this last night with my wife where the two of us were celebrating our son's first birthday.

The wine was opened two hours prior to our arrival but started hitting its stride a good hour after we arrived. By then, the sweet dried plummy fruit came to the fore and provided a nice balance to the high menthol, marzipan and almonds notes, and the subtle wet burnt wood nose. It is still young-ish and tannic but not overly so, and it matched well with the food. A lovely understated wine that needs, and hopefully will develop, a little bit of a pull.

- loved the burata
- loved the goat skewers
- the beet agnolotti - what can I say, probably one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had; and the quail agnolotti were also very delicious
- the secondi were tuna, lamb and squab and since I am not a big lamb guy I ordered the squab which was good but too much work.

I like the place a lot, probably my second favorite after Komi, which, if you have not tried yet, you HAVE to. It ain't cheap though.

Maybe we can hit Komi next time I'm in town.

I probably would have had the lamb. I've had the best veal chop of my life at Obelisk.

Had a great dinner at Obelisk in June. I highly recommend it, the food, service and wine were all excellent. My wife also found the squab to be a lot of work.

If only they'd update the decor a bit, but I guess it's part of the charm.

Really good selection of Grappa, if not quite a Convivio-esque selection of Amaro.

BTW, I chose Obelisk based on your recommendation. Thanks.
