I shared a bottle of the '96 Almendra a couple of years ago with a group of wine folks who don't typically drink a lot of Loire chenin, sparkling or otherwise. They found it boring, and compared it to Prosecco. I think my eyes grew wide but I held my tongue, if I recall correctly. I didn't bring the bottle, but I made sure the remaining half bottle went home with me. They were only too happy to let it go.

Wish this was still available.

Sounds like you should have tasted them on it blind.

'81 Tondonia blanco ... in a grand place with plenty of room to run.

Yes, had this a couple of weeks ago (with a friend from the Jura, to give him a new angle on oxidative whites): it was so very good, and fresh and young. Beautiful stuff.

I'm continually confused at how you use this word.

This usage seems uncontroversial to me in this context. But I'll let SB speak for herself.

The wine is old as opposed to vinified in a purposefully oxidative style.

I could be wrong about that, though.

But the usage does float around a lot.

I think she just uses it to provide some sort of schema for things that she likes.

Or maybe I'm just used to immunologists.

I think the wine is in barrel for an unusually long time, and it has an aldehydic note to it. In a good way, and nothing like an old fashioned Jura wine, but it's there.

But again, I'm not SB, who is well capable of describing her own usage.

Honey, please tell me what doesn't make sense, here. As Joe notes, there is more than age to the oxidative profile. It's not just old. It's, well, a bit oxidized; controlled, which is important, of course. One of those things which, with air, become less so. I don't know the freakin' mechanism. I just work here.

I think, here, you're wrong. I say this with due respect for the rest of your rants.

(How fucking polite I am, tonight.)

The rest is gibberish. I don't give a tinker's cuss if a wine is oxidative or not. I don't care if all the wines I like fall into a little box or are blown like dandelion seeds all over.

Other people don't seem to have usage differences.
