Disgorged 2008. 1/3 each Chardonnay, Garganega, Pinot nero. Straw colour. Pretty nose with lots of autolytic character. Hints of viscuits, dark bread, yeast. Some aromatics like flowers and a little minerality. Quite powerful spumante in the mouth. The fruit shows again lots of autolysis. Complex with a mineralic and lightly flowery background. The mousse is a little rough. Fine acidity and long taste. This, to me, unknown spumante from Gini is surprisingly good and places itself as one of the most interesting sparkling wines outside of Champagne.

Interesting. I was unaware of this category. I can see someone serious and careful doing some interesting things with garganega frizzante in the same fashion as chenin ptillant. Or maybe they've tried, and it doesn't work.

Soave is allowed as spumante under DOC. I have had a couple of forgettable frizzantes from the area, yet no one with the name of Soave on the label. Gini's spumante has no mention of appelation at all. I guess they might have brought the chardonnay/pinot nero from elsewhere. Anyway it was a surprisingly good spumante.
