WD1YATN: 2007 Domaine de Bellivire Coteaux du Loir Rouge-Gorge

This is the best Rouge-Gorge I have had in several years. It's a very pretty wine. Crunchy, light-red fruited, and quite real.

I can imagine food that might pair perfectly with this, but I got home a little late tonight and had this with various leftovers and assorted mismatched food, including a few "Cheddar Jalapeno Poppers" warmed up in the toaster oven (these food products are manufactured by Heinz North America and most certainly never ever appear on the dinner table of Fla. Jim and Diane).

The Cheddar Poppers are perfect with the wine.

That is my son's favorite wine.
I should have never let him taste this,
he has since cleaned me out of it.

When Joe D. had his industry tasting in San Francisco JBL and I decided after tasting to purchase some of the above mentioned Loire red for ourselves. It's nice to think our palates were correct.

Thanks John...for some unclear reason the '04 of this is hanging around at a store in Chapel Hill but I haven't seen later versions...

I much prefer the '07 to several prior vintages of the wine (favorite before that maybe '02?). Some of the recent efforts have been a little too mulch-like for my taste.

I often find an agave or Tequila-like aroma in this wine (and in many wines made from pineau daunis), particularly in cooler vintages. Most of the time I'm fine with that, as it is just one note among many. The '04 Rouge-Gorge however makes a beeline straight for Jalisco. For me it's a fascinating, if just marginally drinkable wine.

That said, it does have a small but committed fanbase.

I kind of get your tequila reference, but to be more meaningful I think you'll need to translate this into single-malt terms for me.
