2005 Alesia Fairview Ranch Syrah, Santa Lucia Highlands, alc 14.25%, $39...Deep and opaque...nose of roasted meat and black olives...follows through on the palate with a dense attack of roasted coffee/meat and olive tones with truly dusty tannins...could easily be served as a young Cornas or Cote-Rotie...an amazing effort that equals or exceeds any California Syrah I have ever had....
 
You know, I almost took this wine home with me tonight (not for drinking tonight but to have on hand). Of course I guess if I had I would have broken it instead of the Verget.

Good to hear, I was very happy with how the '03 Alesia Syrah (don't remember the vineyard) developed.
