Dining in Paris

After a quarter century of tasting adventures in this city's bistros, caves, and bars a vins, Frank Wynne toasts his favorite spots- humble and haute - for a glass or three.

As Monsieur Lucien never tired of telling me, "Anyone can buy a premier cru-all you need is money. But to discover a perfect little wine, now that is truly something." Same goes for the setting. While dinner at Senderens is invariably magnificient and the wine list at Taillevent exhaustive, to discover a small but perfect bar a vins, a passionate, approachable sommelier, an unexplored nook in this city, is indeed something. What follows is a personal, quixotic selection of places (most of them fairly modest by Paris standards) that I return to again and again. To quote Horace "Nunc est bibendum" - Now it's time to drink!

P.S. Sorry for the long URL link!!

Pete,
Thanks for the link. Keep in mind that you can embed links using the HTML a tag using href="URL". You can quote this post to look at how I embed your URL

Apart from Le Verre Vole and Bistrot du Sommelier, I hadn't heard of any of these places, though some of the quoted prices made me choke.

And you do the new-window link! Props.

Mark, it's only because you were unable to come back to Paris last fall that you didn't expand the roster.

It reads like a short list of where I go (the only one I haven't been to is Bistro du Sommelier; also the most pricy).

Props properly go to local HTML whiz Jeff Grossman, with whose tutelage I learned that trick. Though I'm a neo-Luddite, I'm educable, fortunately.

Kewl. Well, put July '11 down on your busy social calendar, 'cos I'll be back with Jean, celebrating her 22nd annual 29th birthday.
