Decanting a 2006 Breton Bourgeuil Clos Senechal and a 1997 Huet Clos de Bourg Moelleux 1er Trie to bring down to my cousins later.

Breton smells gorgeous, lovely fruit with underlying earth. The Huet smells like apple cider. Uh oh. May need a backup bottle here. We'll see how it's done in the decanter after I get back from Bouley Bakery.
 
I attended a massive gathering for the new year yesterday. The standouts were a 1999 Poderi Colla Barolo Bussia "Dardi Le Rose" and a 2007 Domaine de la Voute des Crozes Cote de Brouilly. I would like to get several more of the latter, it seemed like a pretty darn good QPR, and I really enjoyed it.

I have one of those Huets in the cellar myself - I await your report somewhat nervously.
 
Don't say that about the '97. Scary stuff.

I brought some Von Nell Sekt and a Marcillac last night, which were both showing nicely.
 
The Huet was dead. Very dead. On the plus side this wasn't an on-release purchase so it might have seen heat damage along the way. Substituted a 1997 Forman Chardonnay that I picked up on a whim at auction. Pleasant if uninspired.

The Breton was good but still quite young and tannic.

1. it was a 375
2. it was from a batch I got through Brad that I hadn't sampled before
3. I haven't had anything from '95-'97 in a while and was curious
 
I have in the past thought to myself that the Huet "Cuvee Constance" 1997 from half bottle is a rather simple, uninspired wine.

Just as a, you know, datapoint.

Others may disagree (and most likely will).
 
Do folks really think '97 Premiere Tries in good storage are OTH?

Have such folks lately tried, say, '59 1ers as a ripe vintage comparator?

I confess I haven't touched any '97s in quite some time, but the idea they're OTH seems quite remote. Cooked bottles, closed wines, sure. But good storage good cork and OTH?

This was definitely either cooked or, you know, the thing that nathan doesn't like to hear discussed.

I have not had any premoxed wines from Huet, but I have had other Loire whites from Chenin that sure seem like it to me. [Nathan cannot get too mad at me -- I am a fellow Tar Heel fan.]
 
Opened a 1997 Closel 'Cuvee Speciale' Savennieres last night that was also shot but it was from around when Chambers St. opened and I remember a lot of those Closels had seen heat damage.
