1998 Henri Gouges Nuits-St.-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint Georges
I opened a bottle of this with Salil last week that was pruney and toasted but this bottle is in much better shape. It shows the same mid-weight sweet and slightly sweaty dark fruit that it did a year ago and the frame is still well-structured but the tannins seem much calmer. To my palate this is perfect drinking right now and it doesnt seem terribly complex so I would wonder what would happen with further aging. Does anyone know? Regardless, we enjoyed it with homemade pizza and Bonnie and Clyde.
2003 Reinhold Haart Piesporter Goldtrpfchen Sptlese
A juicy round glistening golden fruit cocktail of a wine. Not at all classic or serious but very 'sunny'. This speaks a bit too much of the vintage for me to really love it, but I cant deny that this sweet flavorful juice is fun. At least for a bit. But then again I love these Mosel wines.
2006 Hubert Bouzereau-Grure Meursault Les Tillets
Minty racy and delicate with slight richness and lovely elegance. If anything, this seems a bit less rich than a bottle from back in May. A wonderful package for a dignified dinner of baked cod, couscous with orange peppers, and sauteed pattypan squash. The only critique is that the wine is not very complex, and for the $60ish price tag I generally prefer to spend my money elsewhere (although this was a gift so we drank it with pleasure).
