Wow - actually quite good. It's still Chardonnay, but minerally, intense, clean Chardonnay.

Same thing for a recent bottle of Pierre Peters BdB. Superfine.

Have things changed with Verget's winemaking style? Less oak than in the past I take it?

Taste some 91-93.

Which means the current style is more in line with wines from the early 90s? I only know the wines from the late 90s and early 2000s when they were not very interesting to me.

Verget's best wines have usually been his cheaper wines because they don't see new wood. If they did you wouldn't expect them to be "cheap".

Something that can be said of so many producers, world-wide.
Best, Jim

I think of it as being a disease of aspiring regions rather than classic ones, generally. Of course there are cases in the fancy zip codes as well.

Fair enough. But still better injested only under duress? (I.E. the only slightly-drinkable thing on a list)

There is so much other stuff out there, why bother with all this wading-through.

Word.

Oh, I mean his domain wines from the Guffens label. Killer.

But I still agree, just not to the level of "word is born".

I thought maybe there was a bit of oak on this, but very little. It's better on the second night, nicer than the Billiot NV rose. Next up, some Bara.
