2006 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges vielles vignes, alc 13%...nose is of cherry and branches...the palate is dark and dense with earthiness and underbrush...no wood showing ...nice overall structure and mouthfeel...a bit subdued but gives some pleasure already...likely to open up nicely with time....glad it was on sale and I picked up several bottles...

I drank a grey market bottle of this back in January and didn't dig it. It was almost slick, with quite ripe, borderline new world-y fruit and toasty vanilla/mocha aromatics. I don't think the wine sees much new wood, so I didn't know what to make of it.

I later tasted most of the 1er crus from the vintage (non-grey) and really enjoyed them for the most part, which only furthered the confusion.

I have two more bottles of the village wine that I'm afraid to open.

Wow. 30, i.e. about $45, here.

I always get annoyed at U.S. pricing versus ours, outside the cellar.

But I don't think you want to compare a super-sale price in the US with standard Paris pricing. There's plenty of overpriced stuff here too!
