TN: Breaking News, Bordeaux, Briords

Celebrated a ten year wedding anniversary the other day. We were bushed from working all day but still managed to put together a nice dinner featuring my favorite, roast chicken and potatoes, as well as salad, a cheese plate and an apple tart Tatin. A four course dinner at home!

The breaking news is that 1999 Clos de Briords Muscadet goes well with two-year-old sharp cheddar. The Briords is in fine shape, bright with a marzipan richness and great with the sharp and creamy/rich cheese. It was a shocker! The wine was even better the next night.

1994 Leoville Barton Bordeaux was a terrible match for the cheese but great with chicken. The wine has come a long way since last tasted a decade ago and is actually quite plush with fruit. So there's some more breaking news: '94 Bordeaux may be coming around. Nice wine and classic Bordeaux, at least as I understand it.

Best,
Kay

Wow, look at you kids.

Mazel tov.

And we can congratulate Jeff Connell for his faith in the '99 Briords. Still maybe not my totally fave vintage, but interesting and worthy.
