What is going on Thursday evening, Oct. 29th?

I heard there might be an Anfora Wine Dinner being held on October 29th.

People are saying the Orange Wine Gathering Society (OWGS) are BACK and working overtime, and that at this very moment they are busy sourcing the following:

2001, 2002, 2003 Gravner Anfora "Breg"
2002, 2003 Gravner Anfora Ribolla (and maybe the 2001)
2005 Vodopivec Vitovska "Orange Stripe" (that's right, the Amphora bottling!)
2006 COS "Pithos"
2006, 2007 Guttarolo "Anfora" Primitivo

Which is all pretty yum, yum.

I also overheard that these wines, and maybe others that folks bring, will be served with a menu designed to enhance Anfora mojo.

At first, I wasn't really listening to all the jabber, but then people were all like "yeah, and they are going to keep it affordable," and that sounded pretty cool. And then there was word that the justly famous Joe Dougherty was going to be there, and maybe even cats like Eric Texier, and then it was like, "I'm in!".

Which is probably a good thing, because I also heard that I am planning the whole thing myself.
 
Maybe you have free time on the evening of Thursday, October 29th, as well as too many bottles of COS "Pithos" 2005 and pre-2005 laying around?

Maybe you just can't look at another full bottle of Lispida "Amphora"? Perhaps you find yourself muttering audibly "If only these bottles of Lispida were empty...one day...if only...?"

Do let that be known, please.

At the Once and Future Orange Wine Restaurant Venue.

That's what you meant, right? Barolo Chinato?

How is it that there is a '47 Cappellano Chinato when I thought the current property was bought by Teobaldo in the 1970's?

I guess I am missing something. Perhaps purchased fruit is the answer.

Certainly we opened a Cappellano Chinato at today's final session of the Concerned Citizens Society for a Greater Fernet Planet Annual Charity Benefit and Silent Auction. The Cappellano was a standout, in fact, as was the M. Vergano Nebbiolo Chinato (showing amazing right now), and the Roagna Chinato.

The Doughnut Plant doughnuts were also a standout. I preferred the "plain" myself.
 
The first-ever Barolo Chinato was invented by Teobaldo's ancestor Giuseppe Cappellano in the late 1800's.

So there's been BV with the Cappellano name for a long time. I don't know where the fruit came from back then though. I also don't know how Brad knows the one he drank was from '47 when it's an NV production.

Because in '05 Dressner brought a little bit into the market and I got a bottle. Date is hand-written in pen on the label. Maybe we need to mention Dressner in the same breath as Rodenstock?

Fwiw, this was the title of an entry Joe made to his blog on 10-06-05, so maybe he can tell the story?

"1947 Barolo Chinato from Teobaldo Cappellano to be Showcased at Louis/Dressner October 19th Tasting!
Actually, his father made this wine."

Yes, I understand that.

It's just that when I read that Teobaldo purchased the vineyards now associated with the Cappellano name in the 1970's, and that he then revived the Chinato recipe of Giuseppe, I make the assumption that there was a break in the production.

But my assumptions are often wrong, so there you go.
