Phlashing through Philly

I'm pretty sure you can get high-end vegan food in SF, no?

That said, I agree that Vedge is interesting and well worth a trip. It was my one dinner on a short trip this past spring.

I never went to Millennium so I don't know. Recent reviews since their move to Oakland haven't been positive. There's nothing like Zahav in SF and according to the Iversons, in NYC, too.

On a Philadelphia note, is it an interesting enough city to take a weekend trip there for purely touristic purposes?

yes!

the barnes, touristy carriage ride old city, constitution center, franklin institute, mudder museum, reading terminal market, italian market, great food, byobs, cocktails, and we can be your tour guides, sold?
Not too far to drive to Winterthur. (I still think of the Barnes as the house, not the new space.)

The Mütter Museum is quite an experience.

Me too. The move still rankles.

Kensington definitely not a walk from Center City.

Noord (Pasayunk and Tasker(?)) is a solid BYOB recommendation in South Philly.

Noord is a 2 mile walk from rittenhouse square.

if you really want to be within a walk of center city try Pumpkin on 17th and south. about 3/4 mile walk from rittenhouse square.

there's also le cheri on rittenhouse square which serves very good french bistro food in a lovely setting. not technically byob but corkage is a reasonable $20.

If anyone thinks hummus is a pedestrian food, Zahav's versions will change (and blow) your mind.

From what I was told by Bar Tartine in SF, he's going to do a dinner there on 11/23.

i can give you several suggestions however, right now , the best new BYOB and probably one of the best places to eat in Philly is Helm. i would strongly suggest booking soon, if not now.

I made a reservation at helm based on your recommendation.

My wife and I went last night and had a terrific meal. I eat more than the average guy, and so we ordered several dishes, which were all great. The vibe was low key, the waitstaff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the chefs delivered each course to the table.

Highly recommended. Thanks!

And just to confirm it actually happened...

I ate there a couple of weeks ago on the recommendation of a friend who is a Chef. I thought the food was extremely good. Decent wine list with a few good german choices.

Hey Philly people,
Any restaurants you could recommend in the Wynnewood Ardmore Bryn Mawr area?
Good food of any style and bonus if it is not too loud to speak to someone across the table.
Thanks in advance.
