2005 Chapoutier Ermitage le Meal Blanc..alc 15%...opened a few days ago and now enjoyed with homemade "french" onion soup with gruyere cheese on top....
an interestingly super-rich palate of beeswax, butter and honeysuckle with a honey like taste and a hint of ginger...quite viscous and turns a bit bitter at the end....
I like Marsanne in many iterations and I have enjoyed this wine from the late to mid 90's more than this incarnation...I don't really get a lot of oak issues but boy is it a rich and thick wine...it actually matched the very rich soup moderately well...this would seem to be one of the Northern Rhone whites that should be allowed to emerge from the "cocoon" at the 15+ yr time....
