I know a vigneron in a different AOC, very far from Champagne, who once told me that his uncle had an entire silver set (not matched, natch) found in the vines. They used the trash from their local city the same way they did in Champagne.
 
This whole thing is too depressing for words. It rates very high on my WHAT THE FUCK scale.
I mean, was this limited to household garbage? Or was commercial garbage OK too? Medical and hospital waste... please don't tell me that was included just cause it was all collected together.

So to reiterate, WHAT THE FUCK?!
