A couple of Gamay questions

Anyone got a recommendation on the optimal drinking window for the 2005 Thierry Puzelat Pouille? I haven't seen or heard anything on his '05's, although I do understand Thierry held up the release until after the '06 was out.

Secondly, given some variability in '08 Morgon, who has had a good vintage? Specifically, anyone have thoughts on Didier Desvignes "Les Charmes"?

fleurie and morgon from foillard were both great, most 08's tasted with the gang of five were. Of course, metras and foillard being my personnal favorites.

Tell me more about Metras...

I see 3 bottlings:
- Fleurie VV
- Moulin A Vent
- Villages

I'm a big fan of Foillard and Lapierre, but haven't had this producer...

Yvon Metras is the fifth guy in the gang of five, based in fleurie, he makes wines of purity and substance. A little like foillard i would say, or the more serious cuvees from lapierre and breton. Dark gamay, always ripe, almost full, same "jules Chauvet" philosophy... Joe should be able to tell you a little more, i believe he's going to bring the wines one of these days, what you see now in nyc is grey market, bought from paris, not from yvon.

The 2008 Vissoux MaV Trois Roches was really nice when I tasted it in June: ripe and interesting, fresh and delicious. Not on the market yet, but keep an eye out. Weygandt-Metzler Importing.

Thanks for the leads, Guilhaume and Doug. Sounds like the Metras, Foillard and Vissoux should be worth the homework to chase down.

I guess I'll just have to sacrifice one of the '05 Pouille's for science. I'll give it a few weeks rest.

Chermette is a terrific winemaker.

Peter is my favorite importer after Dressner. He brings in Gauby and Tribouley, just to name two...
