Mike Dashe's L'Enfant Terrible

It's a nice enough gamay zin, but really now, twenty-seven bucks a bottle?
Don't worry. You won't have the temptation for long--Slanted Door is bogarting the supply and no more will come to NYC.

Truth be told, it wasn't terribly tempting. It's still on the CSW website, but two bottles of old vines Brun Beaujolais vs. one bottle of friendly California gamay zin? That's what we call a no-brainer. At least on my budget.

Not that it's not a nice little wine, but the startling California pricing seems, for some reason, to negate even the weak dollar.

Of course, I'm a cheapass bastard, and a known crank.

We Californians are just doing our part to help the nation's economy and its balance of trade, etc...

Really, you can get Brun for $13?

Must admit, I picked up a bottle just to have one to open for people who were curious and on general principles to support the notion but won't be buying any more at that price.

Oh dear.

I saw this on the shelf at a local wine shop tonight for $28, and the little voice in my head came on: YOU MUST HAVE THIS!

So I bought it. I'm a sucker for hype, and my hypocrisy knows no bounds.

when mike d's wine was still an infant, he found himself embroiled in discussion about its schooling with sfjoe and teh appalling enfant. cue a mass of contradictory nonsense that mike was wise enough to ignore.

a particular sore point was early bottling, which one of teh "advisors" responded to by saying, "it will all be over by christmas [08]."

.sasha, anne dougherty, some other amis and i drank a bottle of same after joe's funeral a month ago. it was delicious, and yet, for myself, i found it to be too much like john t zin, and not enough like teh enfant t.

i'd have rather drunk that bottle sometime around christmas 08.

mea culpa.
