Any of these seem like especially good deals?

There are multiple bottlings for at least the following (asuming you would have noted the capsule/stars/fuder - i.e. these are 'straight' Sp and Aus): von Hovel, von Schubert (I think there was a second non-fudered '93 Abtsberg), Prm (there were 2 normal Sptlesen in '96). And so on.

Of the above, I've only had 5 or 6 in the last year. Assuming it's Joh. Jos. Christoffel, I would bite on the '97. Kunstler slightly thick and drying out. '97 von Hovel rustic but lovely now in that idiom - had it in May with him. Fritz Haag opening up well.

On reputation and memory alone I would go for Weins-Prm (but it's a leaner style - it was certainly quite lean circa 2000), von Schubert, and perhaps the Schloss Saarstein. Don't know that much outside MSR, sorry.

Yeah, the Grunhaus is one I coveted. I've had very little Strub, but I think I'd like those, too.
The Von Hovel sound interesting too, although IIRC the board seems to think the quality took an upswing recently.
I didn't want to be accused of promoting someone's business, by the way.

von Kunow's wines have always been good, if on the rustic and jolly side. Whoever thinks the quality took an upswing recently is retarded (in the proper sense of the word).

Not soft enough to fall off a cliff in 12 years, from recent experience. Especially not those from the Saar (which the M-C is not, I know). The Le Gallais wines are especially good.

Overly soft year?

as Yixin points out, you may be very pleasantly surprised in the Mosel, and even more so in the Saar and Ruwer. I don't have much recent experience elsewhere, except for Donnhoff, which are drinking very well.
