Tasting mob got together last night in Seppeltsfield.....all served double blind with options.

2007 Phillip Pacelet Saint Aubin 1er Murgers des Dents le Chien
super pure and crystalline...fantastic

2007 Etienne Sauzet Bourgogne Chardonnay - super taut and steely...very good at this level

2007 Phillipe Pacelet Chablis 1er Vau Ligneau - citrus fruits and minerally but quite angular and blocky

1964 Jacques Prieur Puligny-Montrachet 1er Le Combottes - a lovely old girl....dried honey, wax, mandarin rind....super complex

1976 Louis Latour Chevelier-Montrachet - washed rind cheesy, walnuts, citrus and dried orange peel on the nose....some oloroso-like characters on the palate...interesting old bird

2005 Mischief & Mayhem Puligny-Montrachet Le Caillerets - super struck matchy and leesy, cashew, peach and nectarine, smoked almonds....nice enough but worked pretty hard

1961 Leroy Auvenay - Rad to the power of Sick....red cherries and redcurrant, s;pice, shit, incense....an ethereal wine....had a diaphanous quality....the fruit and oak were a memory in the liquid.... uber-complex wine...super stuff

Chateau Ahnoose Bourgogne Merde - dunno what this one was but it was shite.

1998 Robert Arnoux Nuits-St-Georges Les Proces - red fuits, spice, peanuts and farts...had an iodine character going on....ok

1998 Prieure-Roch Nuits-St-Georges Clos des Corvees 1er - Super sik....amazing aromatics....funky, stemmy almost sexual smells...amazing stuff

2006 A.P. Villaine Mercurey Les Montots - very lifted, pretty nose...red fruits, spice and some raspberry lift...pretty good

2005 Jean-Jacques Gerrard Savigny-Les-Beaune - we decided this was fermented in hollowed out paw paws....pretty resiny and interesting

2005 Domaine Cornu Corton Grand Cru - pretty good from memory...no notes written on this one

2006 Domaine Fourrier Clos St Jacques VV - this was pretty nice....doesn't mind his oak though

2006 Joseph Faivelly Vosne Romanee - nice enough...had all you'd expect...Asian spice, nice fruit....just lacked weight and drive....grippy though

2004 Le Forge de Tart 1er - declassiefied Clos de Tart....typical '04 nose...celery salt....very peaty....very noice

2006 Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay Les Vendenelles - no notes on thios baby...hmmmmm

2005 Mongeard Mugneret Grand Echezeaux - spicy, gunpowder, forest floor, lovely fruit, caramely oak....noicy noice

and a couple of cheeky ones to tip us over the edge......1997 Rayas Chateau de Fonsalette and a 1996 Ridge Spring Creek Petit Syrah

I seem to remember having the De Bortoli Gevrey Chambertin 2003??? also but didn't take any notes

Had the pleasure of catching up with Nicolas Belfrage MW for a while this week ...long enough to have a chat about new Italian labelling laws, EU name changes for some varieties, Brunellogate and other stuff. He gave me a copy of his new book "The Finest Wines of Tuscany and Central Italy" also.....we also had a look at a few Italian wines

La Riva Dei Frati Prosecco di Valdobbiadene - very good...perfumed, restrained and quite delicate...good aperitif style

2008 Monte Schiavo Pallio San Floriano Verdicchio Dei Castelli de Jesi - very good, sealed under screwcap...picked slightly later than normal....citrus, pear skin....nice texture with some baby fat in the mouth but racy acidity.

2008 Pra Soave Classico - Nicholas mentioned he's been talking to Pra about bottling under screwcap but if they do they will lose their Classico designation (like Pieropan)....100% Gargenega....very good...pear and grapefruit characters with a great shape in the mouth and long finish.

2005 Pra Staforte Soave Classico - outstanding stuff...reminded me a lot of a Hunter Semillon with a bit of age....toasty and rich with hay, pear, and citrus fruit. Creamy texture and a precise lingering finish.

2007 Lis Neris Fiore di Campo - super little idiosyncratic wine made from Tocai Friulano and sealed with Diam.....nettles, citrus fruits, intense florals, fennel and marzipan with heaps of complexing sulphidy nuances....good stuff!

2007 Lis Neris Pinot Grigio- from the Isonzo zone in Fruili ....pear and grapefruit, spice, fennel and lessy creaminess....good weight and length

2007 Tua Rita Rosso Dei Notri - outstanding....60% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 10% Syrah, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon....pretty, very French smelling wine...bright Sangiovese acidity on the palate though.

2006 Tua Rita Perlato del Bosco Rosso ToscanaOutstanding...Sangiovese/Merlot blend....fragrant red and black fruits, spice and mocha...supple in the mouth with great structure.

2006 Tua Rita Gusto di Notri Awesome...the notes say....65% Cabernet sauvignon, 25 % Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.....110% of goodness.....super fragrant red and black fruits, tobacco, spice, espresso....like a seductive Bordeaux...very structured and a beautiful wine

Lovely wine Sharon....third time I've tried it...seemed a bit pithy and phenolic last effort and I ended up decanting it but just popped and poured this time and it rocked.

Sheesh. Coming on a bit strong for a Wednesday, eh?

I don't think Fourrier uses much new oak, though.

Shame about the Clair; I think I like that estate.

Love your descriptions of the older wines!
