Jay, we are going to have the dinner on January 6th.

You might check Mr. Asimov's The Pour for some ideas. I personally would recommend to you the wines of Gaia from Greece. Good availability/price point/taste.
 
Will the Pie authorities endeavor to provide the control wines? Should I bring 2002 LHL demi in both grafted and ungrafted forms? Will we be drinking twice as much wine in consequence?

To tell you the truth, where it is possible to show side by side grafted vs. ungrafted, I think that would be the real deal. And personally exciting for me.

Sometimes there isn't really a clear cut comparison possibility at hand.

I thought that as my slice of the pie I would focus on the Italian vino, and leave it open to others to bring possibilities from other parts of the world. One of the big comments about the anfora dinner was that people didn't know what to bring because it seemed liked the restaurant already had all the (imported) bases covered. I think the field is a lot more wide open for this event.

If we're doing side-by-sides I have both versions of Joguet Varennes du Grand Clos 2003, 2004, and 2005 and Cappellano 1998, 2000, and 2001, although I might be hesitant to do the latter since I wouldn't wager either bottling to show well at this age. I also have the '96 Joguet franc de pied and the '91 Quinta do Noval Nacional but would have to leave it to someone else to contribute the bad-pie versions. But I kind of dig the idea of drinking nothing but freedom-pie, too.
 
Count me in. I can bring the '05 Joguet Varennes de Grand Clos and Keith can bring one of the others, if that works.

I'll see what else I can dig up.

Seems like around 15 or more people are in. How will this work? Breaking into multiple tables, or should everyone bring 2 bottles of each wine so there's enough to go around?
