Ribera del Duero 2007 and 2008?

What's the word on these two Ribera del Duero vintages? Thanks in advance!

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

Bet on the 2007, perhaps one of the most complete vintages, if not the most complete one, of the decade in many Spanish regions. Cooler than 2004 and 2005, it's produced some elegant wines.

Thanks! No info on 2008 yet?

2008 was good, not great, in Ribera; the same could be said of 2009, saved by a wet September after the big drought.

This is a good analysis. Yet it was not confirmed by officialdom: Spain's appellations have this silly habit of bestowing an official qualification on every vintage, after a tasting committee runs through a number of wines. For the past 20 years, no one has admitted to having a 'mediocre' vintage, so everything goes from 'good' to 'excellent'. Yet in 2007 Ribera settled for a 'very good' qualification - same as 2006 and 2008. For once, I think they underestimated this cool and long season.
