'Drove down to Berkeley on a beautiful cool day for lunch at Cafe Rouge with Steve Edmunds. Rahsaan joined us long distance for a brief time via phone. ('Sorry you didn't get any food Rahsaan but it sounded like you were getting some wine.)
We talked a little bit about wine and what's on the horizon for both of us. Steve's got a rose in the offing that should be fun and I'll try my hand at pinot.
Better still, I got to try the 2008 ESJ syrah from Mendocino; starts reticent but gains character and becomes expansive with airing. Another fine syrah that will likely drink well early and late - 13.6% alcohol and nicely structured. ESJ does it again.
Every time I'm in Berkeley I remember the 2006 harvest when I served as intern for Steve. Quite the accelerated learning curve to be in on the 'day-to-day at ESJ.'
And that's about as much poetry as I need these days.
Best, Jim
