Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, we had the whole turkey EXCEPT the above pre-Thanksgiving festival delicacy. Turned out pretty well, as did the wines:

2004 Edmond Vatan Sancerre Clos la Nore Initially shy on the nose, opened more as the bottle warmed - grapefruit, lime, flowers on the nose with great acidity supporting minerals, lime, honey, and fruit. Nice length as well. Still a bit on the young side.

1998 R. Lpez de Heredia Rioja Rosado Gran Reserva Via Tondonia Light peach color, peaches and apricots on the nose - a bit heavy in the mouth but smooth with orange, apricot, nuts, and a slightly oxidized palate - decent acidity and a medium finish. Didn't fare well against the food but improved with time. Re-corked for tomorrow. I suspect this one can age quite a bit longer too.

2008 Domaine des Terres Dores (Jean-Paul Brun) Beaujolais Cuve l'Ancien Vieilles Vignes Decanted a couple of hours before dinner. Bright fruit and a bit of tar on the nose; racy acidity, cherries, and minerals on the palate. Medium-long finish. Became more expressive as time went on. Hits the Beaujolais sweet spot at $13.49.

We also had the '98 Lopez Rose. And I agree with you completely. I thought it would have gone better with the food than it did, but oh well. Unfortunately, we didn't leave any to try today.

This is a much happier wine today. Went extremely well with leftover oyster casserole (oysters, butter, cream and saltines). Seemingly much more cut and vitality than when it was doing battle with turkey.
