I brought that bottle as an intended counterpart to Don's '96 Taluau, and I've been really impressed with some of their wines. But this one was just kind of dull. Probably abused somewhere along the shipping trail.

Jay: What DID we open after everyone but me and Chris left?
Everyone else: great to see you again or to meet you. Been a long time away. Glad I came down. That was a very interesting line-up of wines - and not a Rhone among them, Jay! I don't know if it got much better than the Vilmart 1993 that we started with, but it would be wrong to say it went downhill. The Ridge was maybe the only crushing disappointment; something definitely wrong there. I particularly liked a couple of the more "modest" wines on show: the Olivier 2000 Muscadet SMSL "Clos des Briords", and the Dard et Ribo 2006 VdP de l'Ardeche "Lard, des Choix". The Barbaresco may have been the most appealing of the reds.

I was under the impression that this was a blend of syrah and gamay. Not just gamay.
Lard, des choix is a play on words as the wine is a VDP from Ardeche. Think: l'Ardechoix (someone or thing from Ardeche).
And fat too.

2005 Coulaine Chinon 'Picasses' as Chris had never tried it. Unfortunately, while good, it would have benefitted from more air.
