Should I be so foolish as to open one now to see what it's like young and should I survive the hordes of disorderlies descending on me with torches and pitchforks for such an act of infanticide does anyone have decanting advice?

Yes, I realize I'm inviting the Mikadoesque recommendation of slipping strychnine into the decanter but this is a risk I'm willing to take.
 
It was incredible pre-release, and just after, and neither was all that long ago. I would never sacrifice one now, but that's because I'm selfish and greedy with my limited horde, not because I don't think the wine wouldn't be drinkable.

I'd definitely decant, and for a very long time. Days, maybe. Even were it to still be open and fresh, this couldn't hurt.
 
I had one this past summer and it was lovely. I wish it wasn't because now the other bottle is calling me...

Yes, that was the intent of the question but it turned out I had buried it all the way in back to avoid just that temptation. Then I was going to go with a 2002 Briords but that was also inconveniently located.

In the end the 1973 Burgess Cabernet made a fine starter wine.
