93 Roumier Bussiere

Good wine. Even very good wine.

But not what I was hoping for and expecting.

I'll confess we didn't have patience with it, and it hit the glass a bit on the cold side. But warmth and what air we gave it didn't fix those problems.

Maybe it's a good thing that, way back in the day, I bought 6 of the Chambolle and 2 of the Bussiere.

Time for some grappa, I think.

If you've got any, I'd hold and hope for the best.

I've had pretty good luck with lower-level wines drinking well. Things like Roumier Chambolle AC, D'Angerville Volnay "1er cru", Lafarge Volnay AC (stunning wine), etc. This was the first time I've tried something that was a step up from that.

I've yet to have a Bussiere that was charming. I have some hope for my 1996s, but as you say, bury deep and hope for the best. Or drink on release.

The most magical Bussiere I have ever had is the 1978, tasted last year. I have had the fortune of tasting many vintages of this vineyard, and 90% of them are way too tight in there youth. Middle age (89,90) never seems to be a good time either (they develop a reduced, funky, dried up profile..).
Holding is a good chance to take. Lets hope Christophe stuck to Papas recipe..

SFJoe, that was the 93 Bussiere that I opened for you and VL about a year ago at the chinese place on 24th, but that bottle had a couple of hours of air by the time we got to it

Never had the 1978. Oldest has been the 1988. There is no market to sell them so I'll just hold on to what I've got and see what happens.

Lee, did you see the vertical bussiere (2006-1953) write-up in issue 15 of view from the cellar? Seemed like a reasonable account, in absence of anything from SadatX.
 
Didn't see that View from the Cellar. I'm no longer suscribing to wine periodicals, because I just don't need the temptation. I've got too much wine in the cellar as is. At least I seem to have a stable inventory level and am no longer growing.

But when you subscribe to VFTC, you can substitute reading Gilman's extensive but engaging prose for buying wine -- who has the time? Combine that with a dose of Schildknecht and you might have to give up on sleep, too.

speaking of VFTC, does anyone understand the politburo's official position on Gilman ? Is he like a token political dissident, tightly controlled on a leash just long enough to appear completely independent and borderline anarchic to the oblivious outside world?
 
I believe he's been sent to infiltrate and possibly insurrect the Berzerker community, though his choice of attack -- Schildknechtian post duration -- is too new to quantify its success at this time.
