A majestic old Pinot Gris for the holidays

1985 Leonard Zind-Humbrecht Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain Tokay-Pinot Gris. Incredible richness, smoky, slighty sweaty and skanky exotic fruit, a true Grand Cru. Real acid thrust and power, lingering a very long time. Decisively dry, with a wonderful wintertime lushness and richness. Definitely one of the best wines I've had this year. In no way too old.

Whom in Alsace do you like for PG, Thor? We had an extremely good Trimbach at TG. I have yet to try any of Weinbach's. It seems it can be very good if it's not too rich (unless you really like rich, of course).

Kientzler. JosMeyer. Trimbach. Boxler, albeit there's little of it. Weinbach in less ripe years. No one you haven't heard of on that list, I guess.

The 2000 Hommage a Jeanne Trimbach is heavenly.

It's a magnificent wine -- you're most lucky to have come across that bottle.

It was quite stunning. I honestly didn't quite know what I had until we opened it. Picked up recently in fact.
