TN: Bize SlB Blanc, Huet Petillant 2002

The Bize 2007 Vergelesses blanc starts with a bit of rubber and wool, then some sap, but then goes dumb. With air time, I could feel very fine, dusty minerals. Next day, really intense fine mineral, almost sweet with intensity. Reminds me a bit of De Moor's Rosetta after a couple of years, except for the sensation of sweetness. Will be interested to see what direction this goes in with time. Artistic wine.

Huet: I let this one sit open in the Fridge a few hours before drinking and am happy now to jump on the bandwagon: smooth, biscuity, toasty. Lovely wine, but young, I think. Remarkable.
 
Been a long-time fan of S-l-B blanc, when its not too fat. I fondly remember picking up a pile of the Jadot at $11. '95s and '96s, IIRC.

Those were the days.
 
Yeah, we went through about a case and a half of 02 pavelot village blanc we got at auction for $10 or 11.

This is labeled at 13.5% abh, but does not taste fat at all, except perhaps a tiny bit right at first. Otherwise it is lithe and delicate. Much different from the Pavelot villages.

Not sure about the QPR, buy the wines really are excellent. Last time I was there, there was a different dude making the whites. Aside from the excellent Bourgogne and Savigny, there was a stunning Puligny Garenne.

So much good QPR in Savigny these days it's hard to choose. Bize, Marechale, Rollin and Pavelot are probably 75% of Burgundy purchases.

Guillaume Bott works with Patrick Bize on the whites -- he's ex-Sauzet. All of Bize's SLB Premier Crus can be found for under $50 here in California. It's pretty hard to find other exceptional Premier Crus at that price point these days.

It's been a while since anyone has accused me of actual thought, but thank you just the same. I'm a Bize acolyte, but not really sure what distinguishes a thinking person's wine/domaine. Elaborate?

I glimpse Marechale from time to time; must try some soon.
