Newbie joins the fray

Saw Gateway a few years ago at Yoshi's in Oakland. Phenomenal. Love their two ECM discs, too. I saw the Abercrombie Quartet at the Palace of the Legion of Honor just a few months ago. It was quite good. Sandi and I had one issue with that show. We had just had brunch and then went to his performance (2PM matinee). Some of his music gets rather dreamy. It was really tough at times to stay awake! We noticed a couple of folks around us went into dreamland.

Good to hear that Gateway still plays from time to time...sounds like they still have the spark. Was JA playing any e.mando?

Haven't kept up with the quartet...who's in it?

Post-lunch over here and I'm on to On The Corner. Talk about dense and chewy.

Don't recall who the bassist and drummer are. Violinist is Mark Feldman. Abercrombie did play mando on one tune, maybe two.

Love On The Corner. The Complete On The Corner Sessions box set is terrific.

I thought maybe the tenth anniversary of joining was upon me, but not quite. But what a different world it was back then. The hills were alive with the sound of Joes, the Coad-dependents were mourning his furlough, and the general population included a spate of stalwarts no longer here, for one reason or, most likely, another. But I am very grateful to those who have hung on so that we can at least claim to be a shadow of our former selves.

O what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
Alone and palely loitering?
The sedge has withered from the lake,
And no birds sing.

[...]

And speaking of La Belle Dame, what the hell has happened to Sharon?

I'm just amazed I was ever that smart at any point in my life.

Ironically, I just bought a copy of Shadows and Light...and have been deep into the fusion saga for the last decade, in part kicked off from this thread.

Pat's Solo is Word.

Yes, one had to put the old grey matter to work to play in this sandbox.
