2007 G. Descombes Morgon VV
Shows lots of the lovely exotic Morgon spices that I expected to find, plus a bit of the seductively silky texture. So that was nice. But overall it shows a bit simple and without the depth of my favorite examples of rockin and rollin Morgon. Is that a function of vintage? Age? Vineyard holdings?

2008 Foillard Morgon Cte du Py
This bottling has probably given me more examples of rockin and rollin Morgon than any other. But, this was my first taste of the 2008 and it doesnt seem to be quite there yet. From the beginning it is more delicate and elegant than the above Descombes, but it needs several hours of air to start coming together into a composed textural package. Eventually it begins hinting at that crystal lace that has so often sent my knees wobbly in earlier vintages of Foillard CdP. Maybe/Hopefully this just needs time to get there.

a mag of the 08 was showing great a month ago, a bottle showed nothing last week...
it was just closed, need a few month to come around probably...

I try to keep my hands off these Morgons until they are three or four years old, but usually fail. I wonder if only lapsed catholics call those exotic Morgon spices "church spices." In any case, the myhrr the merrier.

I am always amazed to see how fast Beaujolais can go from being closed to drinking well. Sometimes just a few months makes a huge difference.

That said, the 2005 Desvignes Morgon Javernieres seems shut down hard, and I don't think a few months will make a difference for this wine.

Thanks for the tip. I just brought home a 2005 Javernieres from storage to try soon. I'll take it back.
