Huet question

Marc D

Marc Davis
I found a bottle of the 1976 Huet Clos du Bourg Moelleux recently.
The bottle looks almost new, at least the label does.
The fill is up to the mid neck.

Was this a recent winery release with the bottle topped up and recorked?

I've never tasted a Vouvray this old. Will this wine be sweet?
Would it work with a roasted turkey we are having for dinner tomorrow night, or should I wait and drink it for dessert?

At least.

But you could easily have it with turkey and sides if you don't mind rs with your meal. Or you could have it with cheese after.

Which I wouldn't say about a '59 1er trie, for instance.

How were the pinnipeds?

Awesome! few females yet, so no fighting among the bulls, but lots of big guys coming in from the sea or just lying around like over-turned row boats. Totally cool visit. (Especially given that we landed at SFO at about 12:50 AM that morning.)

Less awesome was '00 Groffier C-M Sentiers at dinner last night; based on other '00's i was expecting pretty and yielding with nice sweet aromatics; maybe just a poor bottle, but this was a bit shrill with its oak showing in very not pretty ways. (Blow cushioned by finding Grosjean Gamay and Bouchard Inflorescence for less than in NYC at wineshop called "Soif" in Santa Cruz. Pretty great assortment of wines for a very small shop in the central coast. Is this place know to the West Coast Disorderlies?

It's a Groffier problem, not a bottle of 2000 problem.

Soif is a great shop. We've been going there for a while and one of the employees reps for Farm Wines, which distributes Dressner's wines. Also their by the glass list is always really big.

Ah; I am so fond of Groffier in '96, and '99; and a few '02s as well. This remaining 1/3 of this bottle was even worse the next day.

Will keep that in mind for the next time; we were there too early for the tasting bar. And yes, noted quite a few Dressner wines; almost bought a bottle of Ulysse Collin to try, in fact. Never had one before ....
