2009 WIWPies of the Year

I thought "Kick A Ginger Day" was last month?

-Eden (I keep forgetting - was it Hoyt Wilhelm or Minnie Minoso who had red hair?)
I don't think anyone ever saw Hoyt Wilhelm's hair. Minnie's hair wasn't red, though. So maybe Hoyt...
Lou; knuckleballers last longer!

Ah, my three favorites too - but what I particularly appreciate about Barton Fink is the way it reveals the agony of writer's block! I so could relate!

Dagan should get the JBL award!
We're having dinner on New Years eve with JBL and I'll pass along your snide reference to him. JBL told me he had quit posting on this board because of an attempt by him to raise his stature in Berkeley society.

Lou should get the Joe Dressner award. His new characters "Luc" and "Dagan" show real dramatic range!

Please do!

There's such a thing as "Berkeley society"? Who knew?!

Yes; they are called "Morlocks".

Scott, I thought you were familiar with "Bizerkeley" society. That's any resident of the city who has not been arrested for being part of an unlawful assembly. The Blue Book of Bizerkeley Society, the last time I looked consisted of the 15 registered Republicans who live within the city limits.

Favorite Berkeley bumper sticker when GW was president. "I never thought I would miss Richard Nixon".

Richard Nixon wasn't half bad. The EPA was formed under his watch (mainly so it wouldn't be an independent commission, but whatev), and he was actually open to a good faith negotiation on universal healthcare. Oh, the good ol' days.

I can understand your skepticism but after JBL showed up with both the 70 & 66 La Mission H.B. which were drinking beautifully he was elected by acclamation to be Berkeley's man of the year.
Lalime in Berkeley with a new chef did a fine job with our food last night.

He's a kind man at the very least. I loved a 66 La Mission Haut Brion about 4 years back.

I thought Alice Waters had a lock on the BMOTY awards. Huh!

I've been hearing mixed things on Lalime as it makes the transition - but wtf do people expect? I had a few exceptional dinners at Aqua when it was at its best before the bubble. Especially some classic scallop, cauliflower, caper gastrique dishes. Cliche? Now, but back when they and Rocco Dispirito (how did he find himself in hell?) were among the few, it was a welcome fresh flavor.

I assume JBL pretended he didn't know me.

Who wrote this and how do you post over a time-date line with no name?

From what I can tell, that was from the Now-Departed Joe Perry who must have deleted his profile on the way out.

I mentioned your name during the evening and JBL just looked a little perplexed. I can't comment on the quality of the food at Lalime except to say it was much better than a year ago. I don't review restaurants for publication until after my third visit.
Did Perry really leave because of SF's mentioned comment. Jeez! when did he become that sensitive? It's called over reacting.
