2006 Guion Bourgueil Cuve Prestige
Nice wine. Dark and full flavored with some crunchy herbal notes to remind everyone where it comes from. And plenty of liveliness. Goes down easily and doesnt inspire much contemplation. At least not while sitting around a table with my family.

2008 Domaine de la Ppire Muscadet
Salty rocky golden fun. No brainer.

2005 Luneau-Papin Muscadet Clos des Nolles Semper Excelsior
This starts out very seductive with rich fruit and crisp minerals but then it closes up with air and becomes less expressive. Still, it was (very) good while the pleasure lasted!

2007 Occhipinti IGT Sicilia Il Frappato
Fresh bright and high-toned. Something about the candied and glossy overlay didnt sit entirely well with me, so I kept going back to the Clos des Nolles. But other folks liked it a lot, even if it was a tough match with shrimp in tomato caper sauce.

2000 Denis Mugneret Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges
A gentle delicate elegant sliver of a wine. An earlier bottle from October showed more depth after airing while this one started to show vegetal notes with too much air. So we had no choice but to enjoy the elegance while it lasted and then move on to something else. Tough life!

2007 Marcel Lapierre Morgon
Juicy joyous gaiety. Although it needs hours of air to fully deliver on those promises. But, it eventually delivers.

1977 Robertson's Rebello Valente Port
A crumbly cork and lots of fine sediment meant that we had to strain this bottle through a tea filter. Afterwards, we were left with nothing but lovely mature port that melted delicately on the palate, went well with a chocolate dessert, and inspired mirth all around. Perfect drinking.

indeed

i did get my fill of the 07 beaujolais tho, which i found to be a delightful wine in itself, so i don't feel undernourished

Interesting note on the 1977 Port, I'm not familiar with that one, though I don't claim much knowledge in the Port department. 1977 seems to be a bit of a maligned port vintage, one with special interest to me as it's my birth year. I do tend to keep my eyes and ears open for info on it, even though I'm not exactly looking to buy any right now.

Cheers,

Kevin

Of the notable great Porto vintages of the last 40 years, I do not recall ever having seen 1977 as a vintage maligned. 1985 I have seen maligned. 1977 is usually on a pretty high pedestal, so far as I can tell and drink. Perhaps I have missed some of the materials which you have read.

After I wrote this I seemed to remember I'm probably conflating 1975 and 1977. If I now recall correctly, I seem to remember reading somewhere that many houses declared 1975 a vintage more due to celebration of the ouster of Salazar that due to a great wine being produced. I'm still not familiar at all with Robertson's. Good producer?

Cheers,

Kevin

I'm not very knowledgeable about Port either. Vintages or producers. But I bought this 77 Robertson's in 2007 at Chambers St Wines. And of course their recommendations are usually good enough for me.

I bought the wine as a wedding gift for my friend, who was kind enough to save it and open it with me (and our wives) this past weekend. A win-win!
