I was recently given a bottle of 2004 mugnier nuits st. george, 1cru, clos de marechale. Ready to drink or does it need more time?

CellarTracker! can be a source (Wine Disorder term: Datapoint) for drinking windows. It actually suggests holding the 2004 red until at least 2013. No drinking window for the 2004 white. Looks like they produced a fairly decent red.

yes, nothing wrong with drinking this wine now, or later. I have done some of the former, very happily - and intend to do quite a bit of the latter/later. Very nice wine and one of the last ones available before Mugnier moved to a different level of pricing (in the US).

I've found that Cellartracker reviews vary widely in quality and value. Some reviews track very well with "tradition" i.e. they look like a Parker writeup run through Babelfish. Other reviews are from Mars. Still others seem somewhat grounded in reality. Consider the specific source carefully. In the immortal words of Sgt. Esterhaus: "Let's be careful out there"

My favorite memory of this wine is when Mike brought up a bottle from his cellar at my 30th birthday party and Trung said, "Did you need something for cooking?"

It turned out to be very nice despite the zing.

Which reminds me, I have notes to write.
