Hello,
We made a great dinner at the tgjp in Paris last friday with 5 red's Bandol 1998 (Tempier, Lafran-Veyrolles, Gaussen, La Tour du Bon & Pradeaux) and 2 Simone (1998 + 1999) & a sweet wine from Coteaux du Layon (Richard Leroy of course).
See www.tgjp.com
Ask any questions on the forum and I will try to answer.
Best regards

ps : many thank's to bob for the kind Christmas box !

A great selection, pab. I am embarrassed to admit that I did not know of Guassen, even though the estate is in the commune where I always stay (La Cadire d'Azur) and indeed just off the road that I have frequently taken when going to visit Tempier. Will have to search it out next time (hopefully, later this year).

pab--so how was the gaussen? i still have 2 bottles of the 1998 longue garde and the last one was one of the best wines i've had in a while.

So the Pradeaux is showing some complexity? I've been holding off on the three bottles of 1998 Bastide Blanche Longue Garde after it took me three bottles to figure out I was committing infanticide on my 1993 Pibarnon. The third just started to open up and was delicious. I'm wondering how close the Bastide Blanche are to being ready. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd like to hear.
By the way, I also have 2004 Simone Palette Blanc. Any guesses as to when that will be ready? The Google translation of your notes seem to indicate you didn't enjoy them very much.

Jean-Pierre Gaussen estate is located near Lafran-Veyrolles and Gros Nor. It's an argile soil. The winemaking is very traditionnal (no chemical products, whole cluster, native yeast...).
The 1998 was a top-gun wine. Tension, freshness, profound... The main caracteristic is "natural". But, it's just begin to wake-up and should still evoluate in the next ten years.
Best regards

Gaussen 1999 Longue Garde is a delicious bottle of wine. Some of the other Longue Garde cuvees (Dom. Sainte Anne for one) seem to demand aging. But the Gaussen has been delicious from release and it's been difficult to follow the serving suggestions on the label.

I liked the 2004 on release and didn't notice an off-putting wood treatment. But the last couple I tried, a year or so ago, were quite closed. I'm not sure when they might come around.
