2008 Foillard Morgon CdPy

I hope this is an "off bottle", but my glass of 2008 Foillard is quite disappointing. Some nice aromatics, not totally clean but acceptable, but I get a weedy/metallic thing in the finish that will not have me pouring a second glass.

Is this typical of the 2008? I was the love slave of the 2007.

As Morgonotopia quickly approaches, I think other data points will soon be available.

Only had one encounter: a week or 2 ago at EMP, I posted here that I thought it was plenty nice; definitely no weedy/metallic finish that I noticed. I was planning to go back an have lunch at the bar just to drink this wine.... (and they are still pouring the '02 Huet petillant by the glass.)

i"m intrigued...

I'm pretty sure you told me you were working and could not be there. If I misremember, please make that known and I will then make amends.

Morgonotopia is commesurate with Mad Props to the Bouzy Nation which is coequal with my upcoming birthday (actually, right now). Much Morgon will be in open bottle format.

Well, shoot... Happy Birthday, Brother Levi. I wish I could participate in anything called Morgonotopia.

Happy BirthdayHappy Birthday Indeed, good sir!

Best,

Wow, I'll have to have these birthday things more often. Good vibe redounds in the hall. Thank you.

You'd think, this being Disorder and all, that somebody would have told me to F-off by now. Must be the odd time of evening.

Every now and then it's good to have a birthday once a week or so.
As for the Foiilard, I had it once, a few weeks back, and was greatly impressed (which ain't easy).

I guess this was in a bar, since you didn't try it on Day Two?

Levi, Happy Birthday.

Aren't there easier (and I presume cheaper) ways to drink Foillard?

Cheaper ways, sure, but not necessarily easier (or more pleasant).

Fucking non-standard use of "redounds".

(Welcome to the new day.)

Tasting through the cast of Morgon set to appear at Morgonotopia this evening while checking for cork taint, I would chime in that there doesn't appear to be anything terrible about the 2008 Foillard CdPy sample that I have. But at the same time, this is not Foillard's best work. Concurrently, the 2008 Foillard Corcelette would seem to be more interesting at the moment. And, I suspect, although we will see where things go with time open, that the Foillard set in this equation will in the event be somewhat eclipsed by the Savoye (thank you David Lillie), the Chamonard (thank you Eric Texier for the heads up), and the old vines cuvees from Lapierre and Descombes (thank you Mr. Lapierre and Mr. Descombes). It is perhaps worth saying that none of those bottles are from 2008.

Feelings may change, however, and others might feel differently.
