That's a lot of Morgon. Much to learn about terroir and producers and vintage I assume?

And of course much to learn about inebriation.

Well done.

That does look fun.

Shame there wasn't a 3,14 available. But there's not much more shame to that lineup (unless there was some later).

The world of top tier Beaujolais producers can roughly be divided between those that dashing carrot top Joe Dressner has personally insulted and then formally apologized to, and those where the opportunity has not yet presented itself.

There is a lot of hate for Stevie Wonder out there in this world. A lot of hate.

If you have not yet set yourself to obtaining a bottle or two of the Savoye Morgon still in the market, you are making a mistake.

It is not just you that can't tell the difference between a bottle of Descombes VV and Descombes normale. In fact, basically nobody can.

It is not just you that can't tell the difference between a bottle of Desvignes upper tier Javernieres and Desvignes Javernieres normale. Nobody else can either.

Saignee and Bouzy seem to be pretty much interchangeable.

There is a line of ties out there with prints of Russian mafia tatooes on them. I bet you didn't know that.

Everyone should go out right now and personally thank Michael Wheeler for seeing that so much great Morgon is bottled in magnums and available in the NY market.

Somehow I have ended up with a mini-vertical of Souch Jurancon Sec in my refrigerator. This means that multiple people who had not previously met or consulted thought that Souch Jurancon would be the ideal gift for Levi Dalton. Crazy right on when you think about it.

MMVII : don't miss it.

Joe Salamone is a brilliant dude. But you already knew that. Or should.

That '80s trend of hot women wearing men's ties? It is coming back around. Lee Campbell told me so.

Kirk Wallace knows his French restaurants. Knows.

Those who have not been initiated previously have no ability to find the light switch in my bathroom. Fact.

Chamonard needs to be drunk alone to be fully appreciated.

If you are going to bring non-Morgon to the Morgonundrum, you could do a lot worse than bring Roilette Tardive Fleurie 2002.

There is a large run of people who have interest at all in 1969 Morgon. It's a strange world.

Make friends, bring Doughnut Plant doughnuts.

New York police officers apparently do not respond to calls about disturbing the peace emanating from the Upper East Side.

Impossible task? Jeff Grossman has no fear.

Beans make porchetta taste better.

2008 is the year of Corcelette, trust me on this.

Reinforcements courtesy of Patrick Cappiello.

He may only spend 36 hours a month in NYC, but even if that is the case, a solid 8 of those hours will find Joe Dougherty in the promixity of amazing wine and food, somewhere in Manhattan or Ditmas Park.

Mmmmm.... Doughnut Plant.

You guys are living well. Looks like fun.

A shit ton bottles of Morgon on the wall, a shit ton bottles of Morgon. If one of those bottles of Morgon should fall... There's still a shit ton bottles of Morgon there on the wall

ok, well, on the table.

It's strange how sense-memory works. Just looking at all of those bottles, I could swear I was breathing in the aroma of the first glass of Morgon I ever tasted.

What was the actual line up? Anything actually drunk with the right amount of bottle age? That's a lot of young wine, for the labels I can make out.

07 lapierre morgon was one of my top wines for '09

A bottle recently procured on a border raid (Well, I crossed the Mississippi river into Rock Island/Moline) brought in by the Chicago importer (sulfured!) didn't really grab me too strongly, but I've got another to give a shot here soon. I'd like to decide how I feel sooner than later in case I feel the need to stock up, as one of my major beefs with Iowa City as a town is a shocking lack of quality Beaujolais. My first bottle, did not grab me. I'd be interested to hear about how it performed in the context of other Morgons of it's peer group.

Cheers,

Kevin

Life is too short to worry about opening any of those wines too early. Especially with Levi getting a year older. I have no regrets, and no tasting notes...
Levi, I'm trying to remember the nickname you gave the '69. I was a bit foggy at that point...

This was the the "1911" cuve, right? (Delicious and complex in any event.)

As for BJ's question, I don't know what the right amount of bottle age might be, but I agree with Patrick. Many I suppose may be better in time; some maybe not. For example, the '08 Corcelette was so freakin' good that it seems irrelevant if it might get better (and not clear to me how it could). The '02 Roilette VT was screamingly good as well, if in a more mature and complex way. These wines will not make me stop looking for good 15 and 20 year old red burg, but I felt very lucky (and very happy) to get to taste them.

Really, a fabulous event.

It was a blast!

One of the coolest things possible is to taste widely from a region in the company of an importer who is deeply familiar with the subject and can regale all with firsthand stories and insight.

Thank you for being there.

I found the 2005 Savoye Cote du Py VV a bit long in the tooth six months ago. I report this only because I feel jealous and deprived of the kind of socially acceptable depravity that is here displayed.
