2 Lousy Pinot Noirs and one good one

Looking for something interesting in the cellar, the heavy bottle of
2005 Adrian Fog Savoy Vineyard Pinot Noir, alc 14.5% caught my eye...the nose was like sweet-tarts and the taste was confectioners sugar poured over artificially flavored fruit all mixed in an oak barrel of dill pickles...YUCK!!! One of the most contrived and "spoofulated" wines I have ever had...not corked, not cooked just bad...

??? $75 for this

Looking for something better...
2005 Domaine Tortochet Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Jeunes Rois", alc 13%....now we have a very bitter and astringent wine that has green notes and the sensation of the use of underripe grapes...granted, this might just be young and shut down but it gave NO pleasure and didn't seem to promise any later....

Finally, a 2006 Alesia San Mateo County Pinot Noir was opened and was really excellent with balance, interest, intensity and great structure

Thanks for the note on the Tortochot. A bunch of their '05s have shown up at retail here all of a sudden and I've been curious about them (though, not so curious as to actually buy any). Have you had experience with any of their wines previously?

Given the quality of the vintage I experimented with a few new producers including Tortochot (the Gevrey Les Champeaux). My take is these wines will need quite a few years in the bottle to show well. If the '05s have shut down I expect to see a lot of negative notes (and bargains on the secondary market) for years to come.

The Alesia is a nice wine.

If you haven't thrown out the Adrian Fog yet, leave it open a few days....you'll probably like it better. This is my MO with similar sounding bombish Oz wines, and it works.

First one I have tried..price was good but I'm not sure it was the best choice..

It is 90% full and open to the air...I'll try your advice and report if a "miraculous transformation" has occurred.
