2005 Costers del Segre Crvoles, alc 14%, 41% Tempranillo, 50% Cab Sauv, 18% Garnacha and 11% Merlot...one of the most savory wines I have had in quite a while...like a well done demi-glace...rich, savory, well textured and just intense without any sweetness or sourness....drinking extremely well...well done

Interesting place, Crvoles. Just three miles outside the Priorat border west of the Montsant mountain range, and not an inkling of schist in the soil - all clay/limestone. The 12th-century limits of Priorat were very precisely drawn by the Carthusian monks around schist! Good terroir though here in Costers del Segre. Crvoles is a small property and they're members of a Spanish association of 20 private estates of which I'm also part. We're meeting later today in Somontano to discuss such subjects as esca on vines and whether to attend the Miami Wine Fair, and they'll be thrilled to bits to have received a commendation on WD... (Decent white too, BTW.)
