1991 Cappellano Barolo

Oswaldo Costa

Oswaldo Costa
1991 Cappellano Barolo Serralunga d'Alba 13.5%
A solitary bottle rescued from Chambers several weeks ago, made by the producer that impressed me the most during a recent visit to Piedmont, from an OK but nothing special vintage that could not possibly be too early to drink. The cork looks brand new, suggesting recent bottling (but importer is Jandell, not Dressner). Beautiful Barolo nose of roses and tar, with iodine and prunes. Slightly more acid than fruit, but still harmonious. Complements cheese beautifully. Not a powerhouse, or no longer a powerhouse, but tannins still quite grippy, despite being old enough to vote. Just lovely. A data point for the "buy the producer, not the vintage" axiom.

Sounds great and am glad it worked out. Although if this wine were a person it still would not be old enough to vote for the Senate in Italy.

How odd, does one have to be 21?

25.

The upper house is often a bit more exclusive than the lower house. In Britain they are appointed and in France they are elected by other elected representatives and not by the general public (as was the case for the US Senate until the early 20th century).

And, as set forth in our Constitution, Senators must be 30 years old and have been citizens for 9 years, whereas Representatives need only be 25 years old and have been citizens for 7 years.
