2007 Occhipinti Il Frapatto

Even trade for 2008 Guttarolo Anfora first release?

That would be to your benefit dollar -wise.

Then again, I like the G Anfora too much, so forget about it.

Why does the NV Godme Brut Reserve Champers I am pouring taste sweeter than it did 4 months ago? Anybody got any ideas?

I suspect that the fear on the part of the upstream distribution chain in all this is that the customer starts demanding "the good bottling." Hence a bit of soft peddling, you might say.

Jesus Christ. Just what I need. We just got done sending back a shipment of a little 80/20 sangiovese/cab blend because it seems the producer neglected to add any cab to the shipment we received. Then there was the pretty little Jongieux that was so pleasant in the first 10-case shipment--and arrived fizzy with secondary fermentation in the next. Now we have to guess about batch variation from a prestige producer? Just shoot me now.

I'm only about half-kidding. In my neck of the woods, Occhipinti is a tough sell, and we are probably nuts to carry it at all. But it is worthwhile, I guess, to see the look on the face when someone actually walks in and asks for it and I can say "Yes!"

A lot of my producers do more than one bottling, I suspect mainly because bottling is expensive (you have to buy the glass, corks, etc and I believe tax is payable then too), so it helps cash flow to do it in parts. Even if the base wine is the same the bottlings will be at least subtly different, IME.

On the other hand there are stories of high scores magically leading to multiple bottlings, as may have happened with a Spanish wine recently...
