'04 J. Puffeney Arbois Poulsard

Barb made an amazing Moroccan Lamb Stew with Mediterranean Couscous with raisins and raita+Naan...

2004 Jacques Puffeney Arbois Poulsard, alc 13%, $21 on sale...translucent brick red color...nose is of underbrush and a slight sweetness...the palate is semi-sweet and more intense than the color would imply....brushiness, a little dirt and wonderful fruit structure....it was an excellent match to the sweetness of the dish...the wine seems to have an "older" character than the vintage would imply

the stew had lamb, onion, garlic, coriander, cinnamon, ginger, tumeric, red pepper, tomatoes, carrots and a topping of ground almonds with confectioner's sugar.. (details available is desired)

We started with a 2001 Tempier Bandol Cuvee Speciale that was a failure....very medicinal and odd...not corked but not pleasant...will recork and try in a couple of days...very odd indeed

You mean it's aging faster than you would expect?

No, it just was "more grown up" than most 2004 vintage wines... more complex and more interesting...? precocious puberty

I'm jealous, Doctor. This was the first great Jura red I had. It was such a revelation, I still have the empty bottle, but I didn't snag enough for my cellar. Haven't had it in over a year, and it seems gone at retail. Perhaps for the best -- I have great memories of this wine.

Likewise. The '04 Puffeney VV is perhaps a close second.

Still have one bottle of the poulsard though and would be happy to open it sometime in your presence.

Thanks, Slaton. I hope to take you up on that sometime.

Great news on the Tempier...the volatile acidity has dissapated after 2 days and the serious but still tannic wine underneath is looking quite good...I would either conclude
1. this was an "off bottle" AND/OR
2. More time is needed

Godwine.

The 06 version last night was a joyous experience too.

Anyone tried the 07 yet?

I've only tasted a few vintages of Puffeney's Trousseau (2004, 05, 06, 07), but I think the 2007 may be the best of the bunch.
