Who's Next?

Will geezer rock never die? Are we doomed to listen to the music of people born in 1954 forever? Don't get me wrong -- I played "Who's Next" a couple hundred times while in college, and I still enjoying listening to Baba O'Riley when it isn't being being used as a TV theme song, but aren't Keith Moon and John Entwhistle dead? Are those civil war re-enactors who played them on stage at halftime?

Predictions for who will be be playing (music, not football) next year?

The game was actually pretty good, way more interesting than most Super Bowls.

Ok, so maybe I am being too harsh. But would you play in a rock band at halftime in the Super Bowl if you were in your 70's?

Is Lady Gaga going to be doing the Superbowl in 2050?

The producers totally knew it. Out of the bit I watched of the Who, the camera was on the (young) drummer (Ringo Starr's kid?) 60% of the time. Going out wide 35% of the time and on the old geezers with a shit voice and ridiculous hat 5% of the time. Outrageous light/pyro show, though.

With all the kids flyin' the flannel lately (grunge revival seemingly well underway) I'm thinking someone like Pearl Jam.

A guy I work with who is as old as me told me two years ago that Pearl Jam was all the rage again with his high school kids. So I am guessing you are 20 years ahead of the curve on your call here. Prediction: Pearl Jam in 2030.

Although the hook was clearly that the Who was THE band 50 years ago when the AFC started, everyone knows the Who died several years ago and they stuffed them. Give them credit, none of that lip synching that is all the rage these days.
 
It's OK. Peyton Manning turned into Brett Favre. Who knew that was gonna happen if the Patriots weren't involved?
 
I used to love the who but shortly after they started playing I had to change the channel - switched to the kitten halftime show on the Puppy Bowl - too cute, which I can't say for the who.
 
I just wish we could get the baby boomers who put this crap programming together to realize that they make the 60s look like a deeply hypocritical era when they roll out a bunch of rich geezers to sing songs of revolution. Once again, Beyonc was robbed.
 
I didn't expect much from Pete and Roger. The memory I'll keep is the show I saw in Feb. '76 at Winterland. That night, they could've laid claim as The World's Greatest Rock 'n Roll band.

And I much prefer Pete with an SG or Les Paul, and a stack of Hiwatts.
There's something not quite right about watching him play a Strat.
