Who's Next?

As is U. Utah Phillips.

He had a collection out on K-Tel, too?

(I knew a half-sister or step-sister or step-niece or some such of Utah Phillips back in college. She was a talented ventriloquist.)

Halftime 2011Considering the fact that you pretty much have to be old and white these days to make it through Network Security, my vote is for either Journey or Boston. Don't everyone throw up in your mouth at once. Then again historically we are due for a return of Up With People.

I'd pay to see Lambchop do their cover of "Up With People" at halftime. Lots.

I'd love to see Kurt Wagner in his mesh trucker hat performing just about anything. Maybe "I sucked my boss's dick?" or "Soaky in the Pooper?"

I would also pay to see a little "Up With People."

Cheers,

Kevin

Can't we all finally declare the 60s done with already?

I can think of two acts that started way back when who still are excellent to this day: Hot Tuna and John Fogerty. Saw Fogerty a few years ago (it was only $10) and he was stunningly good. I think all those years of not performing kept his voice and vocal range intact.

Fogerty would be terrific for the SB halftime show.

Doesn't baseball have exclusive rights to Fogerty, with that "Centerfield" song he does?

Picturing Jorma up there makes me laugh out loud.
It would be great, but also it would never happen.

Never suggested Jorma and Jack up there. My point was a rebuttal to Scott's comment.

Yeah, "Death Don't Have No Mercy" would go over *real* well...

Enough about "Up With People" already. How about David Bromberg?

Now that's a blast from the past!
Did you ever wake up... bullfrogs on your mind?

Anyone who calls his female back-up singers "The Moist Towelettes" is A-OK in my book.

Unfortunately no.

In many respects, there remain seriously unresolved issues from that time. We're dominated by
the massive military-industrial complex Eisenhower warned about in 1961 which has managed to manipulate us into more war. Despite progress environmentally which began back then, we remain enslaved to the fossil fuel industrial complex and climate charge is not being adequately addressed. The religious right and social conservatives continue to wage culture war those they disapprove of which began with the counterculture of the 60s. We continue to fight a war on (some) drugs that really started back then. I wish this stuff was done with already, jeez the music was one of the good things,

Also from that era, Jeff Beck is (somewhat mystifyingly) better than ever, but the chance of him being asked is somewhere south of 0%.

I vote for Focus. Who doesn't want to hear "Hocus Pocus" on national TV?

Curious as to why that seems mystifying? A reason I can think of is that at his age, he's still pushing the envelope which very, very few do.
